Abstract

Extensive lesser toes plantar plate tears still challenge surgeons, as primary repair is not feasible. Reconstructive procedures used in these cases are often associated with stiffness, persistence of discomfort, floating toe, vascular compromise, and amputation. We describe a new technique, based on the concept of synthetic neoligamentplasty, in which synthetic tape and absorbable screws are used to achieve metatarsophalangeal joint stabilization in extensive tears (grade IV). Level of evidence IV.
