Surgical outcome after flexor hallucis longus transfer in insertional calcaneus tendinopathy

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to show a retrospective analysis of patients with severe insertional tendinopathy (over 50% of the tendon damaged) of the calcaneus tendon surgically treated. All patients underwent surgery with debridement, ressection of the osteophyte and Haglund and transfer of the Flexor HaluxLongus. Methods: This study includes a group of 23 patients, 13 female and 10 male at the average age of 60 (from 50 to 75), and a total of 25 feet. Patients were evaluated through modified AOFAS SCORE. Results: 78% of the patients were satisfied and 95,7% of the patients recommend this procedure, having reported improvement on their clinical condition. 2 patients had small complications with soft tissue and only 1 patient still presented pain 1 year after the surgery. Overall results were positive for the greater majority of the patients. Conclusion: This procedure is efficient, and has few complications.
