Abstract

The authors present in detail a cheap and simple surgical technique for primary repair of the plantar plate of lesser metatarsophalangeal joints. The technique was called the “ugly technique” because of the use of resources such as a simple 18-gauge hypodermic needle and the “snake-head” Ninja instrument. Precisely for these reasons, the technique has been widespread and used in resource-poor hospitals where there are minimal facilities for performing basic orthopedic surgeries
