Abstract

Objective: Prospective clinical, radiographic and pantographic evaluation, to assess the results of Lelièvre Technique modified, with two Blount staples reinforced. Methods: We studied prospectively 18 children (32 feet) with idiopathic and painful flexible flatfoot, operated by Lelièvre Technique modified, between 2006 and 2008, which had not responded to conservative treatment. We assessed the clinical results with the classification of Smith and Millar and the degree of correction on radiographic studies and plantigraphy, using the classification Viladot and the satisfaction index. Results: The results were statistically analyzed. The short-term clinical evaluation showed 12 (37.5%) excellent, 16 (50%) good and resul4 (12.5%) bad results. according to Smith and Millar in the pain parameter. 75% had excellent correction of calcaneous valgus deformity with appropriate subtalar joint mobility. 81% showed excellent clinical correction of the plantar arch. We have obtained 89% satisfactory results. Finally, 93% of patients achieved an arc between normal and grade one according to the Viladot classification. Conclusion: The authors consider this surgical method simple and fast, with few complications, which can achieve a good correction without secondary bone or joint changes. This technique is easily reproducible, low cost and permits a high satisfaction level.
