Introduction: The tumors around the distal third of the fibula are extremely rare. Only 43 cases were described on medical literature searched. Beside the small number of cases, many techniques were employed to sustain the ankle stability. Resection of lateral malleolus without reconstruction seems to not provide instability. Objective: The objective of this paper was to research the functional outcome of the ankle after resection of distal third of the fibula on the treatment of tumors involved the lateral malleolus. Methods: The medical literature was review by databases and five patients with tumors on the lateral malleolus were retrospect study. The method utilized involves the examination of the patients using the scores of the International Society of Limb Sparing (ISOLS) and American Orthopedics Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS). Results: The results showed by the patients were satisfactory with small numbers of complications. Conclusion: The resection of the lateral malleolus without reconstruction is a simple method with low risk of complication and good functional results on the ankle stabilityDownloads
