Abstract

The chondromyxoid fibroma is a benign, cartilaginous tumor that occurs rarely, particularly in the feet. Treatment of the tumor includes curettage, marginal resection, wide resection (en bloc) and the radical treatment (amputation). In spite of being a benign tumor, treatment with curettage and marginal resection is associated with a greater incidence of local recurrence; radical treatment, on the other hand, is related to a low recurrence rate, but implies loss of the segment. We present a literature review about the chondromyxoid fibroma and a case report of this tumor involving the distal phalanx of the second toe, in which the phalanx was resected and substituted by iliac bone grafting, without loss of the segment.
