Abstract

Growth factors are proteins that actas signal agents of the cells. The results of experimental studies have determinated that they play an important role in the bone and cartilage formation, the fractures consolidation, and the regeneration of other tissues of musculo-skeletal system. The objective fo this study is demonstrate that the use of autologous platelet concentrate accelerates the healing time and diminishes the sick-leave in the patients with ankle fractures. Material and Method: A prospective and multicentre study was realized between 5/0112005 and 413012007. Sample study: 26 patients with ankle fracture (22 masc and 4 em). Sample control : 28 patiens with ankle fracture (25 masc and 3 fem). Method: Blood extraction from the patient presurgical, centrifuge and obtaining of two layers; from the superior layer PRP and PRF r-rere taken. This ones are activated with calcium chloride and gel and fibrin mesh are obtained. The gel is used lonely or in combination with bone grafts and the fibrin mesh as biological poultice on the soft tissues exhibited by the surgical wound. It was evaluated the treatment duration and the sickleave percentage. The results obtained were in average 146 days without PRP and 125 with PRP; 8.77% sick-leave without PRP and 8.8% with PRP. Conclusion: The results obtained in the percentage of sickleave were similar in both groups, we realized that the application of autologous platelet growth factors did notdiminishes the percentage of sick-leave. The difference was in the duration of the treatment: without factors an increase of 1 6.8% of the days was obta ined. We realized that the application of autologous platelet growth factors accelerates the time of ankle fractures consolidation.
