Abstract

Background: A distal subcapital osteotomy of the first metatarsal with a small skin incision was used for correction of mild and moderate hallux valgus deformities. Material: Sixteen feet (12 patients) were studied, with a follow-up of 12 to 64 months. All patients presented with mild to moderate deformities, and pain for over a year. Results: The intermetatarsal angle, hallux valgus angle and distal metatarsal articular angle were corrected. Clinically there was an improvement of the deformity and absence of pain. All patients were satisfied with the outcome. Conclusion: The procedure described is one more possibility for the treatment of mild and moderate hallux valgus. lt is a simple technique and almost painless.
