Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to provide descriptive details of the isolated tendinous transposition of the tibialis posterior to the dorsum of the foot through the interosseous membrane in adults, using the AOFAS functional scale. Methods: We performed a series of cases, ambispective with the population of patients with external popliteal sciatic nerve injury treated at the Neuromuscular Deformities Department of the National Rehabilitation Institute from January 2008 to April 2017. Results: The functional outcome of 31 patients was analyzed. 87% of our patients expressed their satisfaction with the surgical procedure that was performed and would recommend this intervention. The adequate selection of patients, a good physical examination, adequate complementary and a complete preoperative planning, will guarantee the success of the results. Among the surgical goals to achieve we have: establish a plantigrade foot, eliminate the deforming forces and when possible, re-establish active control of motor function. Conclusion: We can conclude that this surgical procedure is effective for the management of dropfoot, improves the quality of life and justifies the surgical risk at the time of intervention.
