Abstract

The capsule and ligament´s injuries around the metatarsophalangeal joint of the hallux, frequently associated with dislocation, is a condition that requires a high level of clinical suspicion to avoid a misdiagnosis. It is produced due to direct trauma associated with dorsiflexion of the hallux and axial load of the first ray. This leads to the majority of the post traumatic hallux valgus cases. This case report shows our experience with two patients with post traumatic hallux valgus secondary to ligament injuries of the metatarsophalangeal sesamoid complex. The surgical treatment of these kind of injuries allows to stabilize and restore the function of the ligamentary complex of the hallux and the possibility for the patient to return to their physical activities.
