Manage of vacuum assisted closure in foot and leg wounds

Abstract

Introduction: Healing process of soft tissues takes a long period of time with high rate of morbidity and hospitalization. It is imperative to proceed on all factors which delay the wound healing. Methods: We evaluated the vacuum assisted closure V.A.C. system in 24 patients (18 male - 16 female) who suffer from diabetic ulcers, wound dehiscence and open fractures, the time of closure and reduction of wound size. Results: In wound dehiscence cases we obteined the reduction of the wound in 51.8% meanwhile only 43% in open fractures. Conclusion: The greatest benefit of the V.A.C. system was observed in the treatment of wound dehiscence, with a complete closure in about 40 days, also in diabetic ulcers but with less results in open fractures.
