Abstract

Objective: Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction is the main cause of flatfoot in adults. The treatment is based, among others factors, on the gravity and flexibility of the injury. The recommended treatment for patients in stage II A 1, supple hind foot valgus and supple forefoot supination, has not been established yet. The objective was to preliminary present an alternative technique for the dynamical correction of the forefoot supination for patients with posterior tibial tendon dysfunction in stage II A 1. Methods: A peroneus brevis to peroneus longus tenodesis was performed in nine patients with stage IIA I posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, who had undergone surgery between January 2007 and July 2010. Results: Forefoot supination correction was observed in all nine cases and no patient underwent reintervention. Conclusion: The technique represents a good alternative for treatment of forefoot supination in patients in stage II A 1 posterior tibial tendon dysfunction.
