Abstract

There are multiple surgical techniques described for hallux valgus Surgery. First metatarsal osteotomies are, on the present days, accepted as trusted and with durable results. The shape and localization of the osteotomy on the first metatarsal depend on the correction needed to the inter metatarsal angle (lMA) and on the length of the first metatarsal. The objective of his publication is to present de radiological and clinical results in a series of patients operated with a percutaneous closing wedge osteotomy of the first metatarsal base, associated with buniectomy and lateral soft tissue release. Ninety feet on fifty two patients were operated between June 2008 and October 2009. IMA modification and Satisfaction Scale (K. Johnson) after a minimum follow up of six month, were used to evaluate this sample Resu lts: Pre Op IMA 15.2° (9-22) Post op IMA: 7.5° (0-15) Mean IMA Correction: 8.1° (0- 12) Clinical results: Satisfied without Restrictions + minor restrictions: 93% over 68/90 evaluated feet. Complications: 21 out 90 feet present some type of complications. 15 were considered as minor (transfer metatarsalgia, diminished range of motion) and six were mayor ones: 1 deep infection, non correction or reapearance of the deformity in 3 cases, second metatarsal fracture in one case and section of Extensor Hallucis Longus in one case. No neuritis was present in this series. Discussion: Considering the presented results, this technique is another valid one solution to moderate and severe Hallux Valgus.
